Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the concept behind Amercer7official?
Hi, my name is Erna and I’m the founder of MERCER7, which is a womenswear concept/platform/blog for effortless style. It’s all about capsule wardrobes and I curate pieces around a single aesthetic, which are always minimalist with a bit of ‘rock n roll’ edge. I’m a Mom of two; my son is six, and my daughter is five. When I was on maternity leave, I would order pieces online and a lot of the items would arrive not as expected in terms of quality. Plus, I found online shopping to be overwhelming and time consuming as websites are all too often saturated with too many options. Passionate about slow fashion, and given my fashion design and styling background, I decided to create my own site and that was how MERCER7 was born.
What are you wearing today?
I’m wearing a pair of vegan leather trousers by one of my favorite brands, Nanushka. They’re super high-waisted, they feel amazing on and I absolutely love the shade of neutral (see below!). My suede courts are by the brand WRT and I got them in Harvey Nichols – they are SO comfortable. My knit top has a really lovely cut on the shoulder, it’s so flattering. It’s by All Saints and so is this lightweight trench coat. It’s really nice for this transitional weather when it’s super sunny out, but can get cooler in the shade. My bracelet is Swarovski (I love the shine) and my go-to accessories are these gold hoops.
What's in your #LTKbeauty bag today?
I always carry a stick foundation with me, just because it’s SO easy to travel with. Today’s one if Tom Ford, and it’s brilliant. I have two concealers that I love, one by Georgio Armani for kind of everyday, lighter finish, and another by Bobbi Brown for more of a full coverage. Next up is a powder (also by Giorgio Armani) and it gives you an amazing, satin finish; plus you can also use it as a foundation if you wet the brush that’s included. A red lipstick is an essential, especially if I need to distract from tired eyed. This shade is from Kilian and it’s a perfume lipstick so it smells AMAZING! I also have some lip liners by Charlotte Tilbury, and an eyeshadow pencil by Tom Ford which I also use on my brows.
Can you talk us through where you find your style inspiration?
I’m always drawn to a more minimal, simple look. I get inspired by Scandinavian/Danish brands, I absolutely love them. I love French style, but yeah it’s all around capsule wardrobes. Whenever I buy something new, it needs to tick all the boxes in terms of it’s versatility, timelessness, and if I can wear it multiple times. I always think about the slow fashion angle.
Any tips for turning a basic #OOTD into something special?
I think a neck scarf add a bit of a chic look to any outfit. A good pair of sunglasses like this black pair from & Other Stories (they look a bit designer which is always good). I also love my vintage chanel broach, I put it on every single blazer I own, whether it’s a high-street blazer or something more expensive and it just transforms it right away. Investment bags are also key – I recently bought my first YSL one and it just adds that special something to any look.
What are your go-to pieces for #LTKsummer?
I love to wear maxi dresses every summer. A few of my favorites which you can shop below include a gorgeous All Saints white dress, it’s so flowy and perfect for summer. I also love this maxi version of a little black dress – it will literally go with every occasion and from day to night. Another is a navy dress from COS and it’s stunning. I went for a size 44 which is a UK 14 – I’m actually a UK size 8 and it’s lovely and oversized, but this just goes to show that you should never worry about clothing sizes; as long as you feel comfortable.
What tips would you give our audience for creating a capsule wardrobe?
I would definitely advise to start with your basics. So good quality basics such as a plain black or white tee, some breton stripes. They’re absolutely timeless and versatile. I’d wear any of them with a distressed pair of denim or vegan leather trousers, as well a double breasted blazer. You can mix and match all of the pieces.
Favourite timeless pieces?
Obviously, a good blazer! I wear the black and white ones links below all year round. I’m also addicted to biker jackets, I have a whole collection of them. This beige one is great for the transitional periods, it’s great for todays sunshine. In the winter I mostly live in black leather. Finally, you can never go wrong with a perfect silk or cotton white shirt – I recommend going for a boyfriend or oversized shape for a really cool and effortless look.
Please talk us through your summer shoe collection, we have a serious #LTKshoecrush...
I think every woman needs a pair of classic pumps (even in summer). A few pairs I’ve linked are from Gianvito Rossi – he’s shoes are incredible comfortable, as are Manolo Blahniks. The platform style are sooo comfortable and you can literally dance in them all night (I did this last weekend). In terms of flats, I love white shoes or an off-white shade. My favorites at the moment are from Marks & Spencer or Dune and are a little Dupe of the Hermes style but sooo comfortable and chic.
Do you have any favorite prints?
I’m very predicatable, I love my snake and leopard print. Like Jenna Lyons once said ‘leopard IS a neutral’ and I’ve got two leopard looks linked below. One is a bit of a beach cover up or city dress. I got in a a few sized larger as I loved that oversized look. The second is a Norma Kamali piece and I love this for ALL body shapes. If you are curvy it will just accentuate the curves and fit in all the right places, it’s beautiful!
What can we expect to see next on your LIKEtoKNOW.it profile?
I will definitely be expanding more on my capsule wardrobes and giving you loads of tips on that, but I’ll also be bringing back ‘Mercer 7 Meets’ – it’s a series of interviews I do with other creative and inspiring women and at the end of each interview I always ask ‘What items are on your wishlist for this season’ – so you’ll be able to shop my wardrobe essentials but also those of the creative women I interview – so stay tuned for that!
