Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m an Australian native (I grew up in Melbourne, Victoria) who moved to New York City 3 years ago. In another life I was a classical violinist (I went to university for this in Melbourne!), however now I blog full time and love showcasing my favourite outfits, beauty products and travels through my Instagram, blog, and LIKEtoKNOW.it.
How did you make your decision to move to New York and were there any challenges?
I first came to New York City in 2012 and knew straight away that it was a place that I would love to live one day. When I started my blog in 2013 (I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 6 years!), an agency based in New York reached out to me within the first couple of months of me first posting, wanting to sign some international talent to their books. I was all for it, of course, and they’ve been my agency ever since!
In September 2014 when I came over to New York for Fashion Week, they offered me the amazing opportunity of sponsoring my visa, which for any international person is literally like winning the lottery. At the time I was working full time in Sydney in Marketing, and had my blog on the side. I desperately wanted to move, but it was such a scary thing to quit my job and to move across the world, especially as I had no idea what the ‘blogging’ world would be like over here. I also had to convince my boyfriend to come with me, however luckily after our visit in Sept 2015 to New York Fashion Week, he soon after got offered an amazing job in NYC that he couldn’t resist. Fast forward 6 months later and we packed up our bags and move, and haven’t looked back!
There definitely are challenges, such as the lengthy visa process which you have to do each 3 years, however it is 100% worth it.
How would you describe your style?
I would say that my style is definitely more on the classic side, with a trendy twist… if that’s a thing! I obviously follow the current trends but not overly so, as I love investing in more classic pieces that will last the test of time. I’m also not one for overly ‘out there’ outfits, and tend to stick to the basics that I know will always look amazing, such as jeans, a t-shirt, and a blazer.
I think when it comes to who inspires me, it is definitely other influencers.
What are you most looking forward to for summer fashion?
Summer in New York gets HOT, so for me it’s all about staying as cool and as comfortable as ever. For me, this involves a lot of flowy maxi dresses and midi skirts. I love a cute midi skirt for summer, as they can be worn in so many different ways. Dressed up with a pair of cute strappy heels, or down with some sneakers and a T. I’ll definitely be wearing a lot of them this summer!
Ultimate tip for somebody looking to inject some city-ready style into their wardrobe?
I walk almost everywhere in New York, so for me it’s so important to have comfortable footwear! Luckily for us white sneakers are still so in style, and are the perfect addition to any city outfit!
What can we expect next from your LIKEtoKNOW.it profile?
Currently I post mostly my outfits, but I am definitely going to start posting more home content. I think if I weren’t an influencer, I’d be an interior designer, so homewares is a big passion of mine which I’m going to start sharing more of!
