You walked in Aerie's first ever show at Miami Swim Week in 2018! From that experience, among others, what changes have you seen in the fashion and influencer industries embracing body positivity and real women?

Back in 2015, when I decided to be vulnerable and start sharing my own self-love journey on my blog, body positivity and size inclusivity wasn’t really a huge thing on social media yet. Since then, it’s become such a buzz word in the fashion industry! It makes me so happy to see so many brands expanding their size ranges, and seeing models of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, disabilities, and sexual orientations included in marketing campaigns. Girls and women are finally seeing themselves being represented on social media, down the runway, in advertising campaigns on billboards and magazine covers! Of course, there’s still a long way to go, but these small changes are making big noise, and I’m here for it. It was such an honor to walk at Aerie’s first ever show at Miami Swim Week with Iskra, Mama Caxx, and other incredibly diverse women. A lot of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models attended our show and were clapping for us below the stage, it was so inspiring. At the end of the day, it’s about all women feeling represented!

What did your personal journey to body positivity look like?

A lot of people forget that self-love journeys are just that… a journey! I’ve had a lot of ups and downs when it comes to loving my body, and I still have bad days where I feel a little insecure or compare myself to others. But overall, I’m in a completely different place than I was years ago and that’s the point. All in all, I love my curves: my thick thighs, my stretch marks, they’re what makes me me! For those looking to gain body confidence, my advice is always the same: Take it one day at a time and just work on loving yourself a little more each day. It’s like anything really, you put in the work bit by bit and somewhere down the road you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come!

What advice would you give someone working on confidence and self love?

Each day I receive countless DMs, comments, and emails asking for advice on how to gain confidence. And I always tell these gals the same thing: Look in the mirror each morning and say three things out loud that you love about yourself. It can be anything! Physical traits, personality traits, etc. It may feel silly at first, but I promise it’s very empowering and helps form a new habit of cutting out negative thoughts and practicing positive self-talk. YOU are beautiful, you just have to work at believing that.

What style tips do you have for embracing your curves? Any favorite #LTKcurves styles, silhouettes, or brands?

My number one tip is to forget those silly, arbitrary numbers inside your clothes! Buy clothing that fits, don’t force yourself into a certain size because that’s where you associate your self worth! I’ll say it time and time again: You will feel more confident, comfortable, and sexy when you stop trying to squeeze into items two sizes too small. Rock what you got! Dress to highlight your shape, not hide it! For curvy ladies like me, I always suggest high-waisted jeans, wrap dresses, and fitted tops like bodysuits. These are great pieces that accentuate your curves in the right places! Also, dark clothing has it’s time and place, but so many curvy girls use it as something to hide behind. Try some fun color and prints and claim your confidence! Good American is my favorite denim brand for curvy gals and Third Love makes fantastic size-inclusive bras and panties. I love any brand that has a wide size range and uses diverse models!

What has been your proudest moment for Sassy Red Lipstick to date?

2018 was full of ‘pinch me’ moments: I was featured in the LTK coffee table book, traveled to the south of France with L’Occitane, walked in Aerie’s first ever Miami Swim Week show, spoke on the brand panel stage at rStheCon, signed with my dream management agency DBA, and worked with so many incredible brands. Among all the accomplishments, I’m most proud of the community and platform I’ve built of young women and women all over the world who are currently on their own self-love journey. My proudest moments are when I receive a message from a curvy gal telling me how she took off her coverup at the beach for the first time in years because my photos inspired her; when I get a DM from a mom telling me she’s so happy her curvy teenage daughter has a positive role model to follow on Instagram; or when a curvy wife tells me she finally feels comfortable wearing lingerie in front of her husband again. I’m most proud of my followers and seeing them gain confidence and love for themselves! At the end of each day, that’s what I’m truly here for. 🙂
